The Dandy Warhols
Something beautiful is going on in alternative rock. Bands like Radio-head, the Verve and Spiritualized have brought down the noise on recent releases, embracing delicate, almost surreal sonics. Now the Dandy Warhols, of Portland, Ore., are wallowing in chilled-out sounds on their major-label debut. Not that Come Down is just a soothing snoozefest. "I Love You," with its wall of psychedelic tremolo, is movingly tender, and "Every Day Should Be a Holiday" drifts along on a little puffy cloud of gauzy harmonies and chugging guitars. But a subtle undercurrent of foreboding boosts this dream pop up, up and away. (Capitol)
