Ziggy Marley & the Melody Makers

While having a famous name may have helped Ziggy Marley & the Melody Makers get a foot in the door, their longevity and success is based on something more tangible than being the children of Jamaican superstar Bob Marley. On their ninth CD, Ziggy, brother Stephen and sisters Cedella and Sharon add a bit of old-school R&B to their usual pop-flavored reggae sound with a percolating cover of Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready." The group also joins forces with the Fugees' Wyclef Jean on "Everyone Wants to Be," a tune that sounds like a spaghetti western set on a Caribbean island. Tough, cautionary and defiantly moody, the song is proof that this is one group not afraid to push its sound in new directions. (Elektra)"
