Simply put, she outfoxed the competition. When the statuesque Bessette Kennedy, 31, a former Calvin Klein publicist, landed the country's most eligible bachelor last September, she arrived on the scene dressed for scrutiny. And with a sure-handed use of camel, cashmere and the classics, she showed everyone what American royalty looks like. "She's the epitome of what great style is today," says designer Kate Spade. "Sexy, in a very elegant way." In addition to highlighting U.S., Japanese and European designers, the trend-setting Bessette Kennedy may also even bring back headbands, says designer John Bartlett. "She's very bohemian but also very glamorous. She loves to mix things. She doesn't play by anybody's rules."
