Unhappy families may, per Tolstoy, each be unhappy in their own way, but the angst of the parents (Roy Scheider and Blythe Danner) and adult offspring (including Wyle and Moore) gathered here for Thanksgiving at the family mansion in Maine seems all too familiar. Although a polished first effort by writer-director Bart Freundlich and boasting deft performances by a strong cast, The Myth of Fingerprints plays a touch too precious and refined, like Family Feud reconceived as a Ralph Lauren ad.
