Picks and Pans Review: Too Far to Care
Recorded on a Texas pecan farm, the major-label debut from these nutty but lovable Dallas country rockers is a winning blend of road-house rowdiness and lit. class humor. Roaring guitars and frenzied drumming propel the love story "Time-bomb," while on the slightly more pensive "Barrier Reef," 26-year-old lead singer Rhett Miller snarls, "What's so Great about the Barrier Reef?/What's so fine about art?" A little bit Waylon and a whole lot of wailin', the go-for-broke intensity of the 13 cow-punk songs on Too Far to Care raises an intriguing question: Should listeners exuberantly mosh along or dance a speedy two-step instead?
