Corsets and bras have lifted, separated, pinched, tortured and hampered the female bosom for thousands of years, from ancient Crete (when corsets supported the breasts but left them naked) to the 19th century (when some women died after tight corsets forced their ribs to pierce their livers) to the late 1960s (when feminists burned their bras).
