Picks and Pans Review: Ranting Again

by Dennis Miller

Dennis Miller—who earned his stripes on Saturday Night Live and now hosts his own HBO talk show—may be the consummate '90s funnyman: cynical, obscene, consumed with pop culture and, by turns, smugly self-congratulatory and refreshingly self-effacing. As this entertaining sequel to 1996's hugely popular book The Rants shows, he is, above all, piercingly funny. Urging parents to monitor their children more closely, he asks sternly: "Does your teenage daughter put her kids in bed at a reasonable hour so she can study?" (Doubleday, $21.95)

Bottom Line: He's ranting—and we're raving
