"We're the only game show that actually punishes losers," boasts comedian Bobcat Goldthwait, host of this raunchy half-hour (which premiered June 1 as the first original prime-time series on FOX's rerun-dominated FX cable network). It's the equivalent of 40 whacks for viewers too—unless they're big fans of the master of ceremonies, who cemented his reputation for outrageousness four years ago by setting fire to a chair on The Tonight Show. Contestants judged wanting at some form of performance art—e.g., screaming obscenities at a make-believe Department of Motor Vehicles clerk—are sentenced to a session with Tony the Torturer, whose repertoire includes forcing losers to inhale his malodorous emissions and pick scabs off his large, hairy body. Every show features a moderately gross little number by the female dance team of Wing and Ding and rather detached commentary by the Bobcat, who manages for once in his career to seem like the best-behaved person on stage.
Bottom Line: A new low in lowbrow fare
