Picks and Pans Review: Un Air De Famille

Jean-Pierre Bacri, Agnes Jaoui

On a Friday evening, Henri, a middle-aged loser who likes to hum along with the theme from his favorite game show, plays host to his sister, brother, sister-in-law and mother in the dingy French cafe he inherited from his father. Which course will the story take? (a) Henri proposes a game of Le Pursuit Trivial and everyone plays; (b) the evening drags on into dark midnight as the relations drink, bicker and yell blistering truths at each other.

The incorrect answer is (a).

Famille, adapted from a play by Bacri (who has the role of Henri) and Jaoui (who plays his taciturn sister), is nicely shot and acted. There's a lot of humor, both sharp and gentle, along with tears of regret, but Famille is awfully familiar. (No rating)

Bottom Line: You can skip this reunion
