Fawning Over Flora
The buds that bloom in summer are blossoming on some of the season's most chic—and cheerful—handbags. Indeed, designers from New York City's Kate Spade to London's Lulu Guinness can hardly crank out flowered totes fast enough. "Looking pretty and playful is what it's all about," explains L.A. handbag designer Adriana Caras. Or, as actress Jennifer Love Hewitt puts it: "You can't be mistaken for anything but 100 percent female where there are flowers involved."
Whether the blooms are printed, woven or appliquéd doesn't seem to wilt their appeal. But pick your flowers carefully, says Michele McCracken, co-owner of the Fred Segal store in Santa Monica, which sells bags to Demi Moore
and Kim Basinger. "Roses are so, so over," she says. "Now it's all about the pansy."
