Picks and Pans Review: Newman's Own Cookbook

by Paul Newman and A.E. Hotchner

"Don't expect to find exotic game birds floating in a cream and brandy sauce," write Paul Newman and A.E. Hotchner in their first cookbook. Newman and Hotchner (the Hemingway biographer) being guys' kinda guys, we naturally expected straightforward stuff with lots of spice and tang, like Dilled Fillets of Scrod à la Newman. We got that—as well as plenty of opportunities to use Newman's Own salsas and pasta sauces. Hey, it's for charity. (Simon & Schuster, $25)
