After a 14-year stint playing Little Joe Cartwright on Bonanza's Ponderosa ranch, Michael Landon got back in the saddle Sept. 11 as frontier settler Pa Ingalls on NBC's new Little House on the Prairie. The show ran nine years. Landon died of cancer July 1, 1991, at age 54.

President Gerald Ford, 61, granted Richard Nixon a "full, free and absolute pardon" Sept. 8 for crimes committed as President.
"Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe" put Barry White at the top of the R&B charts this week. The singer, now 54, recently released a new, aptly named CD, Staying Power.
Daredevil Evel Knievel failed to jump his rocket-like motorcycle across Idaho's Snake River Canyon. (He landed by parachute.) At 60, he is retired and living in Montana.

Billie Jean King won her fourth U.S. Open singles championship Sept. 9. King, now 55, will captain the U.S. team at the Federation Cup finals Sept. 18-19.
