On the High Seas
Richard Harris, 40, starred in the ocean adventure film Juggernaut, which opened Sept. 27. Among the most visible Irish actors of his generation, Harris earned Oscar nominations as Best Actor for This Sporting Life (1963) and The Field (1990). His latest film, To Walk with Lions, played at the Toronto Film Festival this month.
"I'm not an actress who can create a character. I play me," Mary Tyler Moore, 37, told PEOPLE. Next year she plans to star in a TV movie sequel to her hit series The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
The Stilt Stops
Wilt Chamberlain, 38, basketball's scoring champ, retired Oct. 1. In 1998 he co-founded a San Diego charity marathon for leukemia research.
BORN THIS WEEK
First Lady Betty Ford successfully underwent breast cancer surgery Sept. 28. Now 81, she remains active in the California drug and alcohol clinic she co-founded in 1982.
"Rock Me Gently" put Andy Kim, 27, on top of the pop charts this week. The Montreal native had previously been a voice for the Archies, a cartoon rock group, and cowrote their hit "Sugar, Sugar."
