Picks and Pans Review: Road Trip

Breckin Meyer, Amy Smart, Tom Green

Road Trip knows exactly what its target audience craves: Ten minutes into this raunchy comedy, the female lead (Smart) has stripped down to her underwear; within 20 minutes, pulchritudinous extras are parading about topless. Quite simply, Road Trip aspires to be this summer's American Pie. It features the same gross-out sensibility (it does for French toast what Pie did for apple pie) and the same underlying affection for its main characters, a quartet of dorky male college students. Per the title, Trip's guys journey from Ithaca, N.Y., to Austin, Texas, encountering sex, drugs, car smashups and other staples of dumb comedy along the way. Green, star of MTV's Tom Green Show, plays a nerdy buddy who stays in Ithaca, where he kills time shoving a live, squirming mouse into his mouth. High art this ain't. (R)
