A sweet, smart kid (Biggs) from the heartland nabs a scholarship to a fancy college in Manhattan. Alas, our hard-working hero is labeled a loser by his new roommates, a trio of spoiled, would-be sophisticates who spend their days drinking, doping and drooling over women.
If college life really was anything like their endless party, no parent would sign a tuition check. It's obvious from the start that Biggs is no zero and that he will eventually get the girl (Suvari), a classmate who's sleeping with a professor (Greg Kinnear). All Biggs needs to be Joe Cool is a better haircut (his drooping locks appear to be groomed with shellac) and to lose his village idiot headgear. Writer-director Amy Heckerling, whose Clueless was far superior, flunks out here. (PG-13)
