Comedy Central (Wednesdays, 10:30 p.m. ET)

In the sporting tradition of demolition derbies, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and pro wrestling, this boisterous new show presents homemade, remote-controlled robots locked in combat in an arena built of shatterproof glass. Color commentator Bil Dwyer provides sexual innuendos, sideline reporter Donna D'Errico (formerly of Bay-watch) supplies the babe factor, and science guy Bill Nye contributes bits of tongue-in-cheek technical analysis. Though the mauling machines' designer-operators are amusingly geeky, the Aug. 30 premiere is summed up in the name of one of the victorious robots: Overkill.

Bottom Line: Crunch time
