Martha Stewart, 58, told a wayward limo driver just where he could go after she caught him trespassing and used her SUV to block his exit from her property. On Aug. 13 Richard "Bub" Anderson took a wrong turn in his limousine filled with bachelorette revelers and accidentally drove onto Stewart's private Skylands estate in Maine. Prosecutors have elected not to press charges, perhaps because her property was not marked with a No Trespassing sign.
Cartoon artist Carl Barks, who drew Donald Duck for more than 40 years and created the ducat-delirious Scrooge Mc-Duck, died on Aug. 26 in Grants Pass, Ore. He was 99....
General Mills executive John Holahan, 83, who in 1963 came up with the marsh-mallow bits that led to his creation of Lucky Charms cereal, died on Aug. 23 as a result of a traffic accident in Orono, Minn....
Composer Jack Nitzsche, 63, who won an Oscar for the theme to 1982's An Officer and a Gentleman, died of cardiac arrest in Hollywood on Aug. 25.
Married...with Children actress Katey Sagal, 46, filed for divorce from her husband of almost seven years, musician Jack White, 46, on Aug. 28 in L.A. The couple have two children, Sarah, 6, and Jackson, 4.
Actress Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient), 40, and her husband, François Olivennes, 41, a doctor and fertility specialist, welcomed their third child, George (approximately 8 lbs.), in Paris on Aug. 21. The couple have two other children, Hannah, 12, and Joseph, 9.
On Aug. 24 police in Florida arrested Scott Andrew Campbell, 21, in connection with the mishap that sent the car of 83-year-old Tillie Tooter off a bridge, trapping her for three days (PEOPLE, Sept. 4). Campbell faces charges of leaving the scene of an injury accident and making a false police report; his lawyer says that "he did everything the law says he's supposed to do."
Former teen idol Frankie Avalon, 59, filed a lawsuit on Aug. 22 against the Avalon Hotel in Beverly Hills. Seeking at least $350,000 in damages, the Beach Blanket Bingo player says the hotel used his name without permission in an ad with the tag "Frankly, Avalon." A hotel spokeswoman declined to comment.
Actress Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting), 30, is recovering well after undergoing an emergency appendectomy on Aug. 21 in London, where she was filming the comedy High Heels and Lowlifes.
