The wife of comic actor Damon Wayans (Mo' Money, Blankman), 40, filed for divorce on Aug. 24 in Los Angeles. Lisa Wayans, 37, cites irreconcilable differences and seeks joint custody of the four children born to the couple during their 16-year marriage.

Wed
Singer and guitarist Dave Matthews, 33, who fronts the rock band bearing his name, married his longtime love, Ashley Harper, 27, on Aug. 10 at the Matthews family farm outside Charlottesville, Va. After a nine-day honeymoon, the groom resumed his concert schedule, the bride her medical studies in Seattle.

Real-Life Drama
On Aug. 26 talk show host Montel Williams, 44, helped save a 16-year-old boy after he crashed his car and it burst into flames in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Williams made the teen a splint from two branches and a belt, then carried him up an embankment to safety.

Trouper
At a heavy-metal music-awards event in London on Aug. 29, actress Britt Ekland, 57, slipped on a piece of melon (residue of a raucous food fight that occurred earlier) and broke her wrist and ankle. Despite her pain, Ekland was carried on-stage to present an award to shock rocker Marilyn Manson. Ekland's broken parts are now on the mend.

Deaths

Tennis ace Bunny Austin, who was one of the game's highest-ranked players in the 1930s but is best remembered for helping to introduce shorts as the sport's uniform for men (replacing heavy white flannel trousers), died on Aug. 26 in Coulsdon, England. He was 94....

Rock and roller Douglas Allen Woody, 44, a longtime bass player for the Allman Brothers Band, was found dead in a New York City motel room on Aug. 26. An investigation is under way....

Tatiana Riabouchinska, a Moscow-born ballet star of the '30s and '40s whose demipliés and grands jetés were captured on film by Disney animators and reinterpreted by a graceful hippopotamus in the 1940 classic Fantasia, died on Aug. 24 in L.A. She was 84.

In Trouble
On Aug. 28 in Fort Lauderdale cops arrested actor Brad Renfro (The Client), 18, and a friend for allegedly trying to steal a $175,000 yacht. Charged with grand theft, Renfro left jail the same day after posting $10,000 bail.

Sacre Bleu!
A motorist in the South of France ran into two-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, 28, on Aug. 29, destroying his bike and shattering his helmet. Fortunately, the cyclist suffered only cuts and bruises and will still be able to compete in the Olympics this month.

Expecting
Former tennis champ Tracy Austin, 37, who is now a tennis analyst for the USA Network, and her hubby, Scott Holt, 40, a real estate financier, are expecting their third child in March. Sons Dylan and Brandon are 4 and 2, respectively.

Back Home
After breaking his left leg during routine physical therapy on Aug. 17, actor-director Christopher Reeve, 47, underwent surgery to mend the bone with screws and a metal plate. Reeve, who has been paralyzed since a 1995 equestrian accident, left UCLA Medical Center on Aug. 23 and returned to his home in Bedford, N.Y., where "he's doing well," says his spokesman.
