Picks and Pans Review: Faithless

Lena Endre, Thomas Hanzon

Endre, playing an actress who embarks on a ruinous affair, not only runs the gamut of emotions; she leaps, somersaults, whirls, dives and sprints through them. It's a championship performance. Written by Ingmar Bergman and directed by his longtime star and muse Liv Ullmann, this Swedish film is marred by arty malarkey–the affair, a movie-within-a-movie, unfolds in the mind of a brooding filmmaker (Erland Joseph-son). But Endre is the real thing. (R)
Bottom Line: A great acting workout
