The Strike Zone
Celebrities might have a lot of free time on their hands this summer if the Screen Actors Guild decides to strike when its contract expires on June 30. While new contract negotiations are already under way, stars have been making contingency plans.
Morgan Freeman: "I'll be sailing. I've been doing it for over 30 years."
Dustin Hoffman: "I'm going to take my mother-in-law into a Jacuzzi and say that all bets are off."
Christina Ricci: "I was thinking that if the strike happened maybe I would do a play, but I am such a control freak that I would have to produce it myself."
Sylvester Stallone: "I'll become a race car driver."
Jennifer Flavin (Stallone's wife): "No, he won't! We'll take a vacation."
Jason Biggs: "I've always wanted to learn guitar, so maybe I'd use this strike that I hope won't happen to learn guitar."
: "Travel. But I hope there isn't one. A lot of people say there isn't going to be one, but every time I say something won't happen, it does, so I'm not saying anything. Like, No, you won't get cancer.' I said that to my husband [Tom Green], and then he got it."
: "I will be very content to spend the summer with my daughter Lily, where we will do nothing much bigger than going to the park. I'll also spend half my time washing the jam out of my clothes and hair."
Renée Zellweger: "I'll spend the summer reconnecting with my dog."
Joan Rivers: "Dr. Laura and I are planning a romantic gay cruise together, If the cruise doesn't work out, I'll spend my time washing Steven Spielberg's cars."
Garry Marshall: "I was in four strikes so far. In 72 everybody learned how to play tennis. Six months like idiots we played, so maybe this year it'll be bungee jumping."
Camryn Manheim: "The dude [3-month-old son Milo] and I are going to go to Gymboree, and Mommy and Me classes, and infant swimming class."
Marcia Gay Harden: "I'll go to our mountain home in Upstate New York and pick blueberries all summer. I've been learning how to make blueberry pies and jam."
James Le Gros (Ally McBeal
): "I think I'll work on my lawn-care skills."
: "My husband [Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes] is doing a summer tour, so I will hang out with him. We are going to all these fun, weird little American cities in the middle of nowhere."
Bill Maher: "I'm going to keep working. The unions and I don't get along anyway, and I don't believe in show business."
