Legal Matters
Actress Shannen Doherty (Charmed), 30, was sentenced on June 12 to three years' probation and ordered to pay a $1,500 fine for a drunken-driving arrest in December in L.A.

Recuperating
Rock legend Jerry Lee Lewis, 65, was released from a Memphis hospital June 19 after suffering from pneumonia. Lewis is best known for his 1950s hits "Great Balls of Fire" and "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On."

...Basketball great and Washington Wizards co-owner Michael Jordan, 38, broke two ribs in a pickup game at a gym in Chicago on June 13. Jordan, who retired in 1998 after leading the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championships, has said he may return to the court next season.

Death
Joe Darion, 90, lyricist for Broadway's 1960s hit Man of La Mancha, died June 16 of undisclosed causes in Lebanon, N.H. The musical won Darion and his composing partner Mitch Leigh a Tony Award.

Update
Aaron Sorkin, 40, the Emmy-winning creator of NBC's The West Wing, pleaded guilty June 19 in L.A. to possession of cocaine and hallucinogenic mushrooms. He must complete a two-year drug-treatment program.

Sequel

A San Jose, Calif., jury took less than an hour on June 19 to find Andrew Burnett, 28, guilty of animal cruelty for tossing a small dog onto a busy highway in a fit of road rage (PEOPLE, April 30,2001). The telephone repairman faces up to three years in prison for killing the bichon frise....
