Has fashion got you feeling worn and blue? Then it's the perfect time to return to a classic—the denim skirt. It's a rugged style stars like Mena Suvari and Julia Stiles can't resist. Donning the durable twill creates a look that is "fun and festive but not over-the-top," says Law & Order: SVU
star Mariska Hargitay, who paired a midcalf skirt with a purple V-neck blouse at a recent premiere. Easy to wear in long or short lengths, the denim skirt is "very sleek," notes actress Majandra Delfino. The Curse of the Jade Scorpion's Elizabeth Berkley agrees. "It shapes to your body," she says. "Just like a good pair of jeans." The style staple fits the wallet as well. "Anybody can afford it," says MTV House of Style's Molly Sims of her Old Navy skirt. Of course, it may not be appropriate for every occasion. "You can't make it fancy," cautions L.A. stylist Cary Fetman. "Always remember, it's still denim."

Keen on supplying their brood with some quality playtime, Angelina Jolie
and Billy Bob Thornton recently escorted his kids William, 8, and Harry James, 7, to an unlikely playground: Haute Baby, an upscale infantwear boutique in Beverly Hills. Charming onlookers, the animated clan pretended they were shopping for the family "babies," miniature poodles named Poodle and Muskrat. But the spree wasn't all make-believe; the group wound up buying out the store's stock of itty-bitty suede cowboy boots at $34 a pair, perfect for the canines who have everything....
The stars went arts-and-crafts crazy for Stuart Weitzman after the shoe designer called on celebs to decorate samples of his footwear to auction off this month for breast cancer research. Catherine Zeta-Jones
decorated her stilettos with silk daffodils, the official fleur of Wales. Cindy Crawford painted her Weitzmans gold, then added an imprint of her famous pucker. But the Today
show's Katie Couric made it a family affair, enlisting daughters Ellie, 10, and Carrie, 5, to help her glue purple and white buttons all over her blue pumps. Wanna make a bid? Log on to www.stuart weitzman.com....

These days tennis champ Venus Williams is serving up aces off-court too—as a fashion designer. She has created a chic line of clothing for Wilsons Leather, with items ranging from $40 spaghetti-strap camisoles to $230 blazers. "It's selling extremely well," says Joel Waller, Wilsons's chairman. "Venus really has talent." The court queen has been honing her craft at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale by taking fashion design courses. "My parents let us know," she says," 'After tennis, you'll be living another 50 years, so you've got to find something to do.' "
A miniskirt isn't the only short thing Ally McBeal
is sporting these days. Calista Flockhart has a new, trim do. The style gives the fine-tressed Flockhart "fuller hair," says L.A. clipper Matt Adams. "It's a more polished look."
Also transformed: actress Jennie Garth, who dyed her golden locks a rich brown. "I wanted to experience something different," she says. The new hue, notes her Beverly Hills stylist Jennifer Jahanbigloo, "works better with her skin."
