>Metropolis
Japanese animated feature about the urban revolt of an underclass of robots. A visual stunner with a heroine—an android girl named Tima—as sweetly sad as Lillian Gish in an old silent movie. (PG-13)
Slackers Moronic college sex comedy about three roommates who cheat their way through school until one of them (Devon Sawa) finds true love and reforms. A waste of celluloid. (R)
Storytelling Director-writer Todd Solondz (Happiness) stumbles with two brutal vignettes, the first about a college student (Selma Blair) having sex with her creative-lit professor and then writing about it, and the second chronicling a documentarian (Paul Giamatti) who makes an exploitative film about a dippy high school student. The point: Both truth and fiction can be manipulated. So what? (R)
