Talk about a no-brainer. Just stitch together 90 minutes of clips from Gene Kelly's Hollywood musicals and you've got a great show.

But there's more to Gene Kelly: Anatomy of a Dancer than the glorious sight of the subject (who died at 83 in 1996) splashin' through Singin' in the Rain. Director-producer Robert Trachtenberg mixes expert commentary with the film footage to give us a vivid picture of Kelly's intense drive, graceful athleticism and sometimes rough-edged charm. It's clear from the recollections of old colleagues (including costars Debbie Reynolds and Leslie Caron) that Kelly was mighty tough to please. Luckily, all we have to do is enjoy the onscreen fruits of his perfectionism.

Bottom Line: Put on your dancing shoes
