NBC (through Feb. 24; check listings)

In figure-skating terms, NBC host Bob Costas earned a 5.9 for presentation in the first week of the Salt Lake City Games. Whether mocking the elaborately theatrical prelude to the Feb. 9 medals ceremony ("If Siegfried and Roy come out next, I don't know what I'll do") or noting ski jumper Simon Ammann's passing resemblance to Harry Potter, Costas picked the right spots for his quips. Interaction between Costas and veteran Olympics broadcaster Jim McKay (on loan from ABC) was limited and rather stiff, but McKay's voice lent special authenticity to stories on injured downhill racer Bill Johnson and figure skater Todd Eldredge.
