Crossroads Better than you'd think. An entertaining, if unexceptional, coming-of-age film about three 18-year-old women going cross-country. Britney Spears displays her taut midriff, sings and acts, all with a personable, homogenized blandness. (PG-13)

Last Orders A quartet of longtime English buddies say farewell to, and fondly recall, a dead friend during a road trip from London to scatter his ashes into the sea. This slight, finely tuned drama stars Michael Caine, Bob Hoskins, David Hemmings, Tom Courtenay and Helen Mirren. (R)

Mean Machine This modest British remake of the 1974 prison drama The Longest Yard subs soccer for football and real-life ex-soccer star Vinnie Jones (Swordfish) for Burt Reynolds. The climactic game pitting the prisoners against the guards is still a gas. (R)
