Bravo (Wednesdays, 8 p.m. ET)
In this 13-episode series about a Chicago-based 24-hour news network, the correspondents fan out across the continent to chase down all kinds of stories—toxic emissions from a chemical plant, a fiery plane crash, a Colorado avalanche that buries the Vice President—but there's no real sense of deadline urgency. It's as if the show's dramatic metronome weren't set to the ticking of the human heart but to the news crawl that nowadays creeps so steadily across the bottom of our TV screens. In the large, perfectly competent cast, Tim Matheson looks exactly right as an anchorman, and Lisa Ann Walter dominates the newsroom as a sour, seen-it-all producer.
Bottom Line: Slow news day
