ABC (Wednesdays, 10 p.m. ET)

If you watched ABC's Houston Medical or PBS's Children's Hospital, you may feel you've had the maximum summer dosage of real-life hospital drama. But I don't hesitate to prescribe this ABC News series, which began a four-week run Aug. 7.

Camera crews spent more than 15 months at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock, focusing on the intensive care unit. Compelling stories abound, from a 2-year-old charmer in desperate need of a heart transplant to a physician who works long hours to save kids' lives while trying to steal time to raise his 5-year-old son. The dominant figure, however, is confident, charismatic Jonathan Drummond-Webb, the chief cardiac surgeon. When this superdoc himself faces a serious health problem, you'll be shaken by the thought of his mortality.

Bottom Line: Take this medicine
