"This range war is becoming terribly tedious," one character complains late in this four-hour (minus commercials) saga, inspired by the real conflict between Wyoming cattle barons and homesteaders in the 1890s. True, the pinging of bullets and the pounding of hooves bring on a slight headache after a while. But Burt Reynolds has fun showing his tight, icy smile as the big ranchers' feared enforcer, and Luke Perry is well-cast as a rustler who's not all bad, By contrast, Tom Berenger just seems tired in the hero's role.

Bottom Line: Worth a shot for fans of old-fashioned westerns
