Possible Hannah Montana Ticket Scalping Probed

The far reach of Hannah Montana has extended into Arkansas – but is her palm too wide open?

In a probe to see if five ticket-sales Web sites may have violated state ticket-scalping laws, Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel has demanded documents related to the sale of seats for Miley Cyrus concerts, the Associated Press reports.

Cyrus's 54-date "Best of Both Worlds Tour," which features the 14-year-old star of the Disney Channel's Hannah Montana, sold out in as little as four minutes, causing such a demand that one ticket for a show scheduled for Charlotte, N.C., was subsequently re-sold for $2,565.

In addition, McDaniel is investigating whether fictitious tickets are listed on some Web sites just to determine if they'll sell at higher prices.

A spokesman for one of the sites McDaniel is investigating, the San Francisco-based StubHub (a ticket-reselling subsidiary of eBay Inc.), said his company would cooperate with McDaniel.

"What's often mistaken about our marketplace is that we procure and price tickets when, to the contrary, we simply provide a secure and managed online marketplace for those who wish to sell tickets they possess," said the rep, Sean Pate.
