Onetime Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, 39, who was divorced from actress Pamela Anderson in 1998, recently popped the question to singer-dancer Mayte Garcia, 28, between gigs on his current solo tour. Garcia, whose three-year marriage to Prince was annulled in 1999, said yes.
Former supermodel Elle Macpherson, 38, and her fiancé, financier Arpad Busson, 40, are expecting their second child early next year. Their son Flynn is 4.
Actress Holly Robinson Peete (For Your Love), 37, and Carolina Panthers quarterback Rodney Peete, 36, welcomed their third child, Robinson James, on Aug. 11 in L.A. He joins 4-year-old twins Rodney Jackson and Ryan Elizabeth.
A libel lawsuit brought against former Boulder, Colo., detective Steve Thomas by John Ramsey, 58, and wife Patsy, 45, was dismissed on Aug. 7 in Atlanta, after an undisclosed settlement was reached in May. The Ramseys, whose 6-year-old daughter JonBenet was killed in their home in 1996, sued Thomas, 40, last year for more than $80 million because his 2000 book JonBenet: Inside the Ramsey Murder Investigation suggested that they killed their daughter.
W.W.S. Inc., a Delaware-based consulting firm, sued actress Susan Lucci, 55, for more than $100,000 on Aug. 7 in L.A., alleging that the soap opera queen broke a 1994 agreement to pay the company 9 percent of revenues for direct-mail beauty products she endorsed. Lucci's rep could not be reached for comment.
Michael Houser, 40, guitarist and cofounder of the jam-rock band Widespread Panic, died of pancreatic cancer on Aug. 10 in Athens, Ga. The group is best known for constant touring before loyal audiences....
Grammy-and Emmy-winning musical director-composer Peter Matz, 73, who during a 50-year career worked with Barbra Streisand and Carol Burnett, among others, died of lung cancer on Aug. 9 in L.A.
TV journalist Bill Moyers, 68, who was arrested in Vermont last month for drunk driving (PEOPLE, Aug. 19, 2002), pleaded guilty to one count of negligent operation on Aug. 12 in Bennington, Vt. Moyers, host of the weekly PBS show Now, was fined $750 and must attend safe-driving programs....
On Aug. 13 in London, pop star Adam Ant, 47, pleaded guilty to threatening pub patrons in a January incident in which he smashed the window of a North London bar and waved a starting pistol at the staff (PEOPLE, Feb. 4, 2002). Ant is due in court for sentencing in October.
Law & Order
The L.A. District Attorney's office issued an arrest warrant for Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil, 41, on Aug. 12, regarding an April incident in which the rocker allegedly slugged a record producer outside a nightclub. Neil's manager called the charges "completely ridiculous" but said Neil will cooperate with authorities.
