Prince William

A Guy Like Di

It took a committee of the great and good more than a year to settle on a design for a commemorative Princess Diana memorial to be completed in London's Hyde Park in 2004. But for years before that, a finer memorial was under way thanks to the effortless genius of DNA: Her older son, William, now grown up at 20, is Di all over again. Only 15 when his mother died on Aug. 31,1997, William today "has the same way of looking up with his blue eyes," says entrepreneur Roberto Devorik, a close pal of Diana's. "He has her smile, the same blush to his cheeks. They have the same silhouette—slim and tall—and the same grace."

Like Di, the 6'2" student at the University of St. Andrews can work a crowd with willowy dignity and shy, flirty humor. At his first royal garden party in July at Edinburgh's Palace of Holyroodhouse, one female guest could not resist telling William how much he reminded her of Diana. The young prince's response couldn't help but recall his mother. He blushed, smiled down and said simply, "That's very sweet of you to say."
