ABC (Tuesdays, 9:30 p.m. ET)
The title of this new sitcom begs for critical brickbats, but it turns out to be appropriate for a show that's diverting despite some obvious flaws.
Sara Rue, a teen with poundage concerns on the defunct Popular, has plenty of charm here as pleasingly plump Claude, an office temp who lucks into a job as assistant to a network anchorman (Eric Roberts). Even if you tend to run from characters who habitually giggle or babble, bubbly Claude will win you over. Zachary Levi and Andrea Parker earn laughs as elitist coworkers who resent Claude's rise. Unfortunately, the writers made them such extreme meanies early on that there's not much room for the characters to grow. Roberts also is given a caricature to play—the womanizing egotist—but he's too stiff and tentative to get any mileage out of it.
Sherri Shepherd is likable as one of Claude's two best friends at the office. The other is portrayed by Andy Dick, whose squirmy style of comedy has its fans...somewhere.
Bottom Line: Hardly perfect but happily Rueful
