Nitty Gritty Dirt Band (Capitol)
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band keeps its success streak Unbroken on this salute to country's origins with an all-star array of guest artists. The album, the third volume in a series that began in 1972, features a generous helping of gospel, a bit of blues and a smattering of country-pop.
This two-disc set is another triumph, enlisting an impressive roster of talent that includes Alison Krauss, Earl Scruggs, Vince Gill, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Tom Petty. The estimable Emmylou Harris guests on two highlights, "I'll Be Faithful to You" and "Oh Cumberland," a duet with Matraca Berg, wife of NGDB singer-guitarist Jeff Hanna.
