NBC in 2002 was the network for people who really, really liked the 2000 movie Meet the Parents. In the summer the network ran off a copy of that big-screen success in the form of Meet My Folks, a tacky reality series in which the guy had to undergo a lie-detector test to persuade the gal's parents that he could be trusted to squire her on a dream date. Autumn brought In-Laws, a laugh-starved sitcom with Dennis Farina doing a minor variation on Robert De Niro's portrayal of a domineering dad out to bully the man in his daughter's life.
