Picks and Pans Review: Now Playing

Assassination Tango
Robert Duvall wrote, directed and stars in an idiosyncratic drama about a hit man who, on a job in Argentina, becomes infatuated with both tango and a sexy dancer (Duvall's real-life love Luciana Pedraza). The tango scenes are mesmerizing, the rest murky. (R)

DysFunKtional Family
Stand-up comic Eddie Griffin (see page 83) makes fun of his kin, the mentally handicapped, whites and blacks and dogs in a concert film. He's funny, but his act is too scattershot, failing to build. (R)

Phone Booth
This small, sharp suspense thriller about a man (Colin Farrell) trapped in a phone booth by a sniper will keep you on the line. (R)
