Picks and Pans Review: Sounds Off
She won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar at 11 for 1993's The Piano. Now 20, Anna Paquin costars in X2: X-Men United.
ON GROWING UP: "Nobody knows what they want to do when they're young. Acting was always just a fun thing that I did. I only really decided what to do with my life recently."
ON HER X2 HAIRDO: "The white streak is Rogue's defining characteristic. The hairstylist bleached the hell out of it every nine to 12 days for six months. When I put my hair in a pony-tail, I looked like a skunk. The day shooting ended, I dyed it bright pink."
ON COLLEGE LIFE: "I went to Columbia for a year. I'll return at some point—I don't know when. I'm a huge perfectionist, so I want to be 150,000 percent committed to whatever I do. I think I'll choose to become an English major. Mom's an English teacher, so it's a genetic thing."
ON TURNING 21 IN JULY: "I will have a party, probably. I'm kind of procrastinating. I have a small New York City apartment—I can fit no more than 20 people and my puppy Deedee, who ends up taking up most of the space around here. She's a cairn terrier, just like Toto. She has no idea she's only 8 lbs."
ON HER OSCAR: "It's in my closet. If it were out on a shelf, it would make my friends feel uncomfortable. I'm looking for friends, not people who put me on a pedestal."
