Maybe it was the wistful way NICOLE KIDMAN, 35, spoke of her desire to "fall in love" and "settle down again" at the Cannes Film Festival May 19. Or that at the same haute-profile event, her ex, TOM CRUISE, 40, was notably not at the side of his gal pal PENELOPE CRUZ, 29. Either way, some starwatchers speculated that Cruise, who was absent because he was filming The Last Samurai in New Zealand, was cooling off his two-year romance with the Spanish beauty—and rekindling feelings for his Oscar-winning ex-wife. True? No, says a source, calling the reports of a Cruise-Cruz rift "ridiculous." The only thing more ridiculous: a Cruise-Kidman reconciliation. Says the source: "It's bogus."
The OLSEN TWINS will be busy shooting a movie, New York Minute, this fall. But Ashley, 16, won't be far from her beau, Matt Kaplan, a freshman football player at Columbia University. Some scenes of the film will be shot on campus.
Making a Pitch
On May 22 Philadelphia Phillies pitcher RANDY WOLF, 26, met a beautiful stranger on a New York City subway platform. "Even though we spoke for maybe 30 seconds," he said, "she just caught my eye." Trouble is, he didn't catch her number. He enlisted reporters to help him find the mystery woman, and so far, according to a Phillies rep, "we've received 21 e-mails." Sounds like first base is just around the corner.
On May 24 KENNETH BRANAGH, 42, exchanged vows with LINDSAY BRUNNOCK, an art director he met while filming Shackleton in 2001, in a "small, private" ceremony, says his publicist. SCOTT WOLF, 35, was less hush-hush about becoming a Party of Two next spring with ex-Real World cast member KELLEY LIMP, 26. "Everybody is over the moon," says Wolf.
