Picks and Pans Review: Red Water

Lou Diamond Phillips and Kristy Swanson, ex-spouses working for an environmentally unfriendly energy company, search for a natural gas source on a Louisiana river. Meanwhile, three criminals (Coolio, Jaimz Woolvett and Langley Kirkwood) hunt for stolen money dumped in the water. The thugs hijack Phillips's boat, there's a big explosion and...
Enough. "Would we care about these cardboard characters if they weren't menaced by a carnivorous bull shark? It takes the filmmakers far too long to realize the answer is no. Once they do, though, this Jaws variation becomes sort of fun to watch—for folks who don't mind lots of blood. The shark shows a biting sense of humor, and Phillips finds a clever way to end its eating binge.
BOTTOM LINE: Adequate once it flows
