FREAKY THURSDAY
Starring in a hit movie just doesn't carry the cachet it used to. Take the case of tween queen Lindsay Lohan. After celebrating her 17th birthday at New York's Dorsia bar with about 200 well-wishers, including little kids and her grandparents, on Aug. 21, Lohan took two girlfriends to the hot spot Suede at 2 a.m. Lohan tried to cut the line. "Don't you know who I am?" she told the club's doorman. "I'm Lindsay Lohan, from Freaky Friday." The gatekeeper wasn't impressed. Fortunately, a couple of club regulars who had come out for a breath of air spotted Lohan and got her group inside. In a happy ending Lohan met up with Justin Timberlake (sans Cameron Diaz) inside in the VIP room.

REASON TO SMILE
Julia Roberts's next movie, Mona Lisa Smile, is about a free-spirited teacher at Wellesley College in the 1950s. Though early word on the film was that it was just Dead Poets Society for girls, an insider says test audiences are giving Smile the highest scores of any Roberts movie ever. The source notes even men are responding well to the film, which opens Dec. 19.

MOMMY RINGWALD
Molly Ringwald is expecting her first child in November, but the father's identity has been a mystery. It isn't her ex-husband French novelist Valery Lameignère, from whom she filed for divorce in November 2002. She tells us, "The father is my boyfriend Panio Gianopoulos." He is a writer and book editor who has been dating Ringwald for two years. She says the two have no plans to wed: "I think I'll go the Susan Sarandon-Tim Robbins route."

SIMON (FINALLY) SEZ
Carly Simon made good on her promise to reveal the inspiration behind her 1972 hit "You're So Vain" to the highest bidder at an Aug. 4 charity auction. On Aug. 18 Dick Ebersol, the president of NBC Sports, who spent $50,000 for the privilege, showed up at Simon's Martha's Vineyard home with nine friends in tow. The singer then divulged her secret but made all swear on a "Pooh Knot"—that's a Winnie-the-Pooh thing—never to reveal the truth. Regarding two popular theories, Simon says, "it's definitely not about James Taylor," but the singer won't confirm or deny that it's about Warren Beatty. "It's more complicated than you'd think," she says.

FAST TAKES

Cris Judd and Ben Affleck have a lot in common: That's right, they were born on the same day, Aug. 15. (Judd was born in 1969, Affleck in 1972.) Judd held a belated birthday bash at The Falls on L.A.'s Sunset Strip Aug. 22. Guests included Eve and Tyson Beckford...

You'd never know it if you watched NBC's The Restaurant, but celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito has a steady girl. Though viewers saw DiSpirito spend a good part of the Aug. 24 finale flirting with female customers in his reality-show restaurant, he and his girlfriend of two years, Italian actress Yvonne Scio, spent that same Sunday night watching the show at his Manhattan apartment.
