JOHNNY DEPP LOOKS STUPENDOUS NO matter what. As the pasty-faced robot in Edward Scissorhands, "he had soul and depth and sensitivity in his eyes," says the film's producer, Denise DiNovi. As the transvestite director in Ed Wood, "he looked so good in drag, it upset me," said costar Sarah Jessica Parker. "I loved the handcuff look," said Cry Baby director John Waters last year after Depp was led away by police from the Mark Hotel in Manhattan, where he had left more than $2,000 in damages to the presidential suite (charges were later dismissed). "Criminal movie star is a really good look for Johnny." Unchained, Depp is "the best-looking gas-station attendant I've ever seen," according to Waters. Still, Depp, 32, makes schoolgirls faint and fathers reach for shotguns. The Viper Room owner has put engagement rings on—and off—the likes of Sherilyn Fenn, Jennifer Grey and Winona Ryder, and his latest significant other, Kate Moss. "He's the kind of guy that would be really sweet to a girl and bring her flowers but still take a pee in the alley," says his Cry Baby costar Traci Lords of Depp's antihero irresistibility. "He's got the bad-boy thing and the sweet boy-next-door thing too." And the modesty thing. "I've never seen Johnny look in the mirror," says Lords. "Which can result in some very embarrassing hairdos on his part."
