Hollywood makeup artist Francis "Max" Factor Jr., 91, the inventor of waterproof mascara, died of congestive heart failure at his West L.A. home on June 7. Factor, son of the cosmetics company founder, began mixing beauty positions at the age of 7. Eventually his clients included such stars as Charlie Chaplin, Fay Wray and Joan Crawford.

Touched by an Angel's Roma Downey, 33, and husband, director David Anspaugh, 48, welcomed their first child, daughter Reilly Marie (8 lbs. 4 ozs.), on June 4 in Salt Lake City. Anspaugh has a daughter from a previous marriage.

Actress Jodie Foster is suing PolyGram Filmed Entertainment and Propaganda Films for more than $14.5 million, claiming the company reneged on a promise to cast her in a thriller scheduled to begin shooting in August. In the suit, filed June 6 in L.A., Foster, 33, claims that Poly-Gram broke an oral agreement for her to star in The Game. The studio blames "creative differences" for the dispute....

The family of Jonathan Larson, winner of two posthumous Tony awards this month for the rock musical Rent, has filed a $250 million malpractice suit against two Manhattan hospitals in the composer's death on Jan. 25 from an aortic aneurysm. The suit, revealed on June 6, charges that Cabrini Medical Center and St. Vincent's Hospital incorrectly read X-rays taken when Larson, 35, visited their emergency rooms complaining of chest pains, dizziness and shortness of breath on Jan. 21 and 23. The hospitals declined comment on the suit....

The father of the then 13-year-old boy who in 1993 accused pop star Michael Jackson of child molestation is suing Jackson for denying that the abuse took place. Jackson settled the charges out of court for a reported $15 million to $20 million. The new lawsuit, unsealed in Santa Barbara superior court on June 7, claims that Jackson, 37, violated a confidentiality clause in the 1994 settlement when, in a 1995 Prime Time Live interview with Diane Sawyer, he denied molesting the boy. A statement from Jackson called the new allegations "false" and said he "will vigorously challenge them."
