Picks and Pans Review: Searching for God in America

UPDATED 07/01/1996 at 01:00 AM EDT Originally published 07/01/1996 at 01:00 AM EDT

PBS (Four episodes, starting Fri, July 5, 9 p.m. ET)

This is a series featuring interviews with various religious leaders. The first episode spotlights reformed Nixon hatchet man Charles Colson, who now heads the Prison Fellowship Ministries, and Rabbi Harold Kushner, author of the bestseller When Bad Things Happen to Good People. Kushner, a genuinely interesting man, says a few controversial things about the Scriptures, while Colson explains for the umpteenth time how going to prison saved his soul. Happily, Searching is less windy than Bill Moyers's Socratic chitchats, but viewers will not be sitting on the edge of their seats.
