PICK A HOLIDAY-ANY HOLIDAY

The title possibilities for a sequel to Independence Day, dubbed ID4 for its July 4 setting, are limitless: ID-XMAS25, ID4U (Valentine's Day), etc. But coming up with a title may be easier than coming up with the sequel itself. None of the movie's stars (including Will Smith, Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum and Margaret Colin) are under contract for a sequel, and there is no story yet. (Otherwise, no problem.) According to Fox senior VP Tom Sherak, "The earliest we'll get to talk about one is late July," when ID4 producer Dean Devlin and director Roland Emmerich return from what Sherak calls "a very well-deserved vacation."...

In other sequel news, Keanu Reeves's loss is Jason Patric's gain. I hear that Patric, who won the lead role in Speed 2 after Reeves dropped out, will receive $6 million-plus, his highest paycheck ever. (Reeves was slated to make a reported $11 million.) I'm also told Patric didn't have to read for the part, which is being rewritten to accommodate him. Sandra Bullock, who had leading-man approval once Reeves bailed, okayed Patric for the sequel, which begins shooting in September and is due out next summer....

Order that silver rattle now. Warren Beatty and Annette Bening are expecting their third child. Bening is only in her first trimester, so neither she nor her husband is talking publicly yet about the blessed event. But take it from me, it's true. The Beattys already have two kids, daughter Kathlyn, 4, and son Ben, 23 months....

Now that he has seen the U.S. political system from the inside, ex-Republican presidential candidate Steve Forbes feels compelled to write a book about it. And not just about his aborted campaign, mind you, but rather a more ambitious historical look at American politics. I'm told the project could fetch Forbes a mid-six-figure advance, chump change compared to the $30 million-plus he shelled out trying to become President....

Dennis Rodman, the NBA's most colorfully tressed star, will have his hair dyed blue for a cameo in the movie comedy B.A.P.s (for Black American Princesses). The film costars Halle Berry with Troy Beyer (Eddie), who also wrote the screenplay. It will be released in February by New Line....

At a recent screening of Courage Under Fire at Planet Hollywood in Manhattan, Sylvester Stallone told me he has gained 30 pounds for his role as a sheriff in Copland, which began filming July 11 in the New York City area. "I'm fat," he said, "and I feel fat." Stallone was accompanied at Courage by fiancée Jennifer Flavin, a little plumper herself as a result of carrying Stallone's baby girl, due next month....

And speaking of weight, isn't it time to give Roseanne a break? That's how I've felt since sighting a huge billboard in Manhattan for Fairway, a warehouse gourmet foods store in Harlem, that reads, "More food than even Roseanne could handle." Of course, when queried, Joe Fedele, the store's co-owner, said with a wink in his voice that the sign was not necessarily referring "to that Roseanne." Yeah, sure.
