Of course we love Cher. Everyone loves Cher. Who can help but bow down before the sheer nerve, verve and spectacle of this 50-(yes, 50-) year-old American original? We love her most when she says things like this, to W: "I'm insecure about lots of things about myself—but COOL IS NOT ONE OF THEM. And if nobody else thinks I'm cool...I still think I am." Well, self-knowledge is often bad news. Our judges—who all love Cher—worry that she's trading her cool for a misguided idea of what's hot. "She'd be more beautiful if she wasn't trying so hard to stay young-looking," says Idalis. "She should dress in a more sophisticated way."
