Skater Tonya Harding's ex-husband—who changed his name to Jeff Stone in 1995 after his original surname, Gillooly, became a late-night TV punchline—married manicurist Nancy Nicole Sharkey on Aug. 17 in Hood River, Ore. The marriage was disclosed Sept. 7. Stone was released from prison in March 1995 after serving six months for his part in the 1994 attack on skater Nancy Kerrigan.
Leonard Katzman, 69, who produced all 357 episodes of the enormously popular CBS prime-time sudser Dallas (1978-91), died in Malibu Sept. 5 of a heart attack. Katzman, who also wrote and directed many Dallas episodes, worked on such classics as Gunsmoke, Hawaii Five-0 and his personal favorite, Route 66, earlier in his career.
After 22 years of marriage, Jane Petty, 44, wife of rocker Tom Petty, 45, filed for legal separation Sept. 9 in Los Angeles, citing irreconcilable differences. They have two daughters, Adria, 21, and Anna Kim, 14, who will live with her mother.
Wanda Webb Holloway, 42, who in 1991 tried to help her 13-year-old daughter make the cheerleading squad in Channelview, Texas, by arranging a hit on a rival's mother, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Sept. 9 in Houston after pleading no contest to murder solicitation. A 1991 conviction was overturned when a juror was discovered to have been ineligible to serve....
Chris Carter, 39, creator and executive producer of Fox's The X-Files, along with co-executive producer Howard Gordon, 35, has been hit with a sexual harassment suit, filed Sept. 9 in L.A. superior court. Among her claims, Files script coordinator Judith Fairly, 42, says that Carter continually made sexually suggestive remarks and gave her unwanted neck rubs. Carter and Gordon both deny the allegations.
Fashion and wildlife photographer Peter Beard, 58, was gored and trampled by an elephant near Kenya's Masai Mara national reserve on Sept. 9. A female elephant charged Beard, ramming a tusk into his left leg, then sat on him, crushing his pelvis in seven places. Beard was airlifted to Nairobi, where he underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition....
Former U.S. Sen. Barry Gold-water, 87, was hospitalized in Phoenix on Sept. 9 after suffering a minor stroke. Republican Goldwater, who ran unsuccessfully for President against Lyndon Johnson in 1964, was in good condition and was undergoing tests.
Dina Ruiz, 31, plans to make husband Clint Eastwood's day sometime early next year, when she is due to give birth to their first child. Ruiz, a news anchor who married the 66-year-old actor-director March 31, recently confirmed that she is pregnant. Eastwood has four other children.
