Al Hirschfeld, 93, the dean of theatrical caricaturists, and research historian Louise Kerz, 60, were married on Oct. 23 in New York City. It is Hirschfeld's third marriage and Kerz's second.

Latin balladeer Jon Secada, 35, and MariTere Vilar, 24, a former assistant in his management office, will marry next February. It will be Secada's second marriage and Vilar's first.

Early film star Laura La Plante, 92, who became the first woman to sing onscreen in the 1929 original movie version of Show Boat, died of undisclosed causes on Oct. 14 in L.A. Celebrity photographer Russell Einhorn (age unavailable) filed an assault-and-battery suit against Rolling Stone Mick Jagger, 53, and the L.A. nightclub the Viper Room in Santa Monica superior court on Oct. 8. Einhorn alleges that Jagger's bodyguards assaulted him and took his film on Oct. 1 after he snapped the rocker snuggling up to actress Uma Thurman in the club. He is seeking unspecified damages....

Teri Hatcher, 31, star of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, filed suit on Oct. 16 in L.A. against Bally's Health & Tennis Corp. The well-toned actress claims the fitness chain owes her $312,500 in fees for print ads, TV commercials and personal appearances she made under a one-year, $825,000 contract dating from May 1995. A Bally's spokesman says Hatcher failed to fulfill all her contractual obligations.

Bluegrass banjo great Earl Scruggs, 72, was in stable condition after undergoing bypass surgery on Oct. 15 at a Nashville hospital. He had suffered a heart attack while recovering from hip-replacement surgery there....

Entertainer Steve Allen, 74, underwent surgery to unclog his carotid artery on Oct. 7 at an L.A. hospital. Allen was released two days later, and doctors expect a full recovery.

Actress DeLane Matthews, 35, who plays Harry Anderson's wife, Beth, on the CBS sitcom Dav's World, and her husband, actor Tyrone Power Jr., 37, son of the late screen idol, are expecting their first child in the spring.

Singer-songwriter Stephen Stills, 53, and his wife of five months, former recording-studio manager Kristen Hathoway, 30, welcomed a son, Henry Owen (weight unavailable), on Oct. 14 in L.A. Stills has five children from two previous marriages....

Actor and Waiting to Exhale director Forest Whitaker, 35, and his wife, model Keisha, 24, are the parents of a 6-lb., 7-oz. girl, Sonnet Noël, born on Oct. 3 in L.A. They each have one child from previous relationships.
