Actor Gary Oldman (The Scarlet Letter) has been offered $3 million-plus to head the cast in New Line Cinema's planned big-screen version of the old '60s TV series Lost in Space. If Oldman says yes, he'll be the campy villain, Dr. Zachary Smith, portrayed on the series by Jonathan Harris. Offers for all other leading roles—played on TV by June Lockhart, Mark Goddard, Billy Mumy, Marta Kristen, Angela Cartwright and Guy Williams (who died in 1989)—have yet to be tendered. "The part of the doctor is the most fun part, and we wanted to cast it first," says Mike De Luca, New Line's production head. De Luca also says he hopes to lure back the TV cast for cameos....

Robert Urich, who continues to undergo treatment for synovial sarcoma, will soon be sharing details of his battle with this rare form of cancer and hoped-for recovery, along with other aspects of his life, on the lecture circuit. Urich recently signed a nonexclusive deal with Boston's American Program Bureau. The bureau's top man, Perry Steinberg, would reveal no details, but knowledgeable sources estimate that the actor could receive between $25,000 and $35,000 per engagement....

Love responded testily, "Do I know you? Have you written something bad about me in the past?"...

Oh, yes, here is Flynt director Milos Forman's official version of how Love came to be cast as Mrs. Flynt. The studio wanted such up-and-coming stars as Patricia Arquette, Mira Sorvino or Elisabeth Shue in the role. But Forman wanted a fresher face and tested Love and two other unknown actresses. He then sent the three tests to a few close friends, including Czech Republic President Vaclav Havel (who was in stable condition in a Prague hospital last week following lung cancer surgery). Foreman says Havel sent back word that he liked Love the best. And so did Forman....

Even though the romance between Gavin Rossdale, lead singer of Bush, and No Doubt's lead singer, Gwen Stefani, continues hot and heavy, when MTV asked Rossdale recently to name the female rocker he felt most comfortable promoting on MTV, he didn't select Stefani, who was standing nearby. Instead he chose Shirley Manson, lead singer of another band, Garbage.
