A southerner (Alessandro Nivola) brings his art dealer bride (Embeth Davidtz) back home from Chicago to a North Carolina small town for an uncomfortable visit with his working-class family in an often amusing and eventually affecting drama. (R)
2046
Hong Kong-based director Wong Kar Wai makes another rapturously beautiful movie, a sort of sequel to 2000's In the Mood for Love, but without that film's seductive pull. 2046 recounts the amorous dalliances of a writer (Tony Leung Chiu-wai) with various women, as well as dramatizing an autobiographical sci-fi story he is writing. Although the movie seems fleetingly profound, afterward it leaves only a memory of ravishing images. (R)
Oyster Farmer
A modest, genial Australian drama about a city guy on the lam who gets a job on a rural oyster farm and falls for the lifestyle as well as for a local girl. Best is the lovely scenery. (Not rated)
