TALKING TO JUDE
Since fiancé Jude Law's affair with his children's nanny was revealed July 17, Sienna Miller's ordeal has been very public, and last Thursday her frustration was showing. As she made her way through a knot of paparazzi at the London theater where she is performing in As You Like It, the actress jokingly kicked a photographer's shin with her flip-flop-clad foot, saying, half-laughingly, "Don't you understand what I am going through?" But by the following Monday, Miller had regained her cool, sneaking into the theater undetected and congratulating herself and her bodyguard with a hearty "Well done!" Says costar Dominic West: "She's doing well."
In fact, according to friends of Miller and Law, there is even reason to hope that the romance will survive. The two "are talking," a friend says of Law. "It is presumptuous to believe this relationship is over," says a source close to the couple. "There are ongoing discussions, and they are working on it." On July 29 Law took the rear-alley entrance into the home of Miller's mother, where the actress has stayed, at 12:30 a.m. and emerged, looking glum and as if he "didn't get much sleep that night," seven hours later, says a witness. According to some London tabloids, Law is pleading with Miller not only to forgive him but to have children with him as well. Who knows? While Miller hasn't worn her engagement ring since learning of Law's affair, neither has she given it back.
GETTING BACK TO WORK
Whenever she's feeling blue, there's one thing that can always cheer up Mischa Barton. "That's easy—ice cream," she says. "I like the butter pecan Haagen-Dazs." Not that The O.C. star has been face-first in a quart since breaking up with her boyfriend Brandon Davis last month. "We just spent the day shooting on the beach in Malibu," says Josh Schwartz, creator of The O.C., which began filming its third season in July. "She had her dog there, splashing around in the ocean. She was in a great mood." Outings with pals also help: On July 30 she joined costar Rachel Bilson to watch Bilson's onscreen and offscreen boyfriend, Adam Brody, play with his band Big Japan. "I'm so excited to be back from the summer," says Barton.
As for rumors that Barton, 19, and the oil heir, who met at a charity event in February 2004, are still seeing each other on the sly, they're simply not true. "We're not back together," she says. "But we remain good friends."
FOCUSING ON THE KIDS
You'd never know anything was amiss in Denise Richards's life based on her demeanor on the set of her new drama Sex, Love & Secrets, which airs on UPN starting Sept. 27 (Richards plays a cutthroat publicist). "She's truly such a sweetheart," says an onset source. "It's really hard watching her go through tough times, but she's amazing. She's a trouper." Part of what has kept her spirits up since beginning divorce proceedings from Charlie Sheen in March is her kids. "Luckily this show allows me to have a home life," says Richards, who often brings 2-month-old Lola and sister Sam, now 1, to the set, where her castmates dote on both Mom and tots. "[They've] got a bunch of uncles and aunties around," says costar Eric Balfour. Although Sheen, 39, and Richards, 34, have been spending more time together lately for the sake of the children, the two remain very much apart. The situation hasn't been easy on Richards, but being able to "forget about everything else" and play someone else has been a great outlet for her. "I play the vixen on the show-the character you love to hate," she says. "It's so much fun."
